About Wirral Health Informatics Service

  • Formed in 2002
  • Employs some 160 staff
  • Serves a user base totaling over eight thousand people
  • Manages deployment of major NPfIT systems
  • Provides a CfH-accredited Service Desk (helpdesk)
  • Provides various of its services to NHS organisations beyond Wirral

WHIS was formed in 2002, bringing together the local Health Authority and Trust I.T. and Information departments to form a new best-of-breed and efficient I.T. service.

It is an NHS department, jointly owned by three local Trust stakeholders: Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Wirral Primary Care Trust and Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust.

With its three 'divisions':

  • Applications, Project and Training (APT)
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  • Internet Services (IS)

WHIS provides a wealth of IT services to its stakeholders and, increasingly, to other NHS organisations who commission work from outside Wirral.
